I am counting down the days until my first “Off the Beaten Path Art Studio Tour” as part of the FloridaArtsTour.com series. Here's a little peek at what I have been doing behind the scenes to get my studio up to speed and ready for visitors!
I sold my former studio in Daytona Beach after 14 years in that beautiful oceanfront location. But we moved a bit inland and I didn't want to have a long commute, so I am now in my new studio which is located just steps from my back door. I am loving the short commute!
The building was first a two-car garage but has undergone several transformations. At one time it was a previous owner's “man cave” I suppose. There had been a poker table under a faux Tiffany light, and a full bathroom was added (which I appreciate!). The walls were dark, dark green and the carpet was even darker. The lighting was dim at best, aided by just four windows which are actually real portholes from a ship! I never shy away from a DIY project but getting this space spruced up was a challenge.
Thanks to my electrician, I have TONS of new LED lighting. Then a light seaglass paint over primer over the dark green helped. The carpeting was removed and replaced with white marble-look tile. The result is a cheerful, light space that I love working in.
If you are able to visit during the studio tour, February 24 and 25, I look forward to seeing you! If you aren't able to come, I will be posting photos from the tour on my Instagram page (@karenstweedie) and on my Facebook page (@studiojeweler, or search for Karen Tweedie – Jewelry Designer/Metalsmith/Studio Jeweler).
